Chief Credit Officer Overview


Our client is seeking a Chief Credit Officer to oversee credit quality, underwriting oversight, and portfolio review functions within a specialized lending environment. This position plays a highly influential role as the second-in-command within the credit organization, ensuring projects move efficiently through the pipeline while providing coaching, leadership, and quality control.

The ideal candidate brings strong credit and underwriting expertise, leadership capability, and a collaborative, team-focused mindset. Experience with the SBA 504 program is a major advantage and will significantly elevate a candidate’s competitiveness for the role. While niche knowledge is valued, the organization is willing to train the right individual who brings the right attitude, work ethic, and leadership qualities.


Chief Credit Officer Key Responsibilities


  • Serve as the central “air traffic controller” for credit workflows, ensuring projects move efficiently through underwriting and approval stages
  • Review credit packages and project analyses prepared by internal analysts and third-party underwriting partners
  • Provide coaching, support, and guidance to a small team of credit professionals
  • Ensure credit quality, regulatory compliance, and alignment with internal credit standards
  • Collaborate closely with leadership to support strategic initiatives and organizational growth
  • Participate in industry conferences and occasional travel to meet with peer institutions or partners
  • Foster a team-oriented, learning-focused culture that emphasizes accuracy, collaboration, and continuous improvement


Chief Credit Officer Qualifications


  • Seven to ten years of credit analysis or underwriting experience
  • Five to seven years of management or team leadership experience
  • Strong knowledge of the SBA 504 program (experience with 7(a) or general SBA lending is helpful but not required)
  • Ability to oversee multiple credit processes simultaneously and ensure timely workflow
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and mentoring skills
  • Team-oriented mindset with a willingness to learn and grow within the role
  • Ability to work independently, make sound credit decisions, and support organizational objectives

Compensation & Benefits


  • Base salary: 150,000 to 175,000 dollars
  • Annual bonus: 25,000 to 30,000 dollars
