Commercial Lender Overview
Our client is seeking a Commercial Lender to develop, expand, and manage commercial banking relationships within the Central Wisconsin market. This role centers on relationship-building, credit analysis, and community engagement to support local businesses with tailored financial solutions. The ideal candidate combines strong credit skills with a proactive business-development mindset and thrives in a close-knit, community-oriented banking environment.
Commercial Lender Key Responsibilities
- Proactively identify and cultivate new commercial lending opportunities through networking, COI relationships, and community involvement
- Build long-term relationships with business owners across manufacturing, agriculture, service industries, real estate, retail, and other local enterprises
- Represent the institution at chambers of commerce, business associations, community events, and other outreach functions
- Promote a full suite of commercial products including deposits, treasury management, merchant services, and digital banking solutions
- Conduct financial analysis, cash-flow evaluation, and risk assessment for commercial loan requests
- Structure facilities such as lines of credit, term loans, commercial real estate financing, equipment loans, and SBA options
- Prepare detailed credit presentations and recommendations for underwriting and credit approval
- Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, loan documentation standards, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain an active and growing portfolio of high-quality commercial relationships
- Perform annual reviews, covenant monitoring, and proactive borrower communication
- Identify and mitigate emerging risks to maintain strong asset quality
- Expand existing accounts by uncovering additional lending, deposit, and service needs
- Collaborate with credit analysts, operations, treasury management, and retail teams to deliver a seamless customer experience
- Participate in team meetings, pipeline reviews, and strategic planning sessions
- Provide insights on local market trends, economic shifts, and competitive dynamics
Commercial Lender Qualifications
- 3–7+ years of commercial lending or business banking experience
- Strong financial, credit analysis, and loan structuring capabilities
- Demonstrated success in business development and portfolio growth
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and negotiation skills
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements, credit policy, and commercial loan documentation
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field preferred
- Familiarity with Central Wisconsin markets strongly preferred
