VP Commercial Lending Officer Overview
Our client, a well-established, community-focused financial institution in Wisconsin, is seeking an experienced VP Commercial Lending Officer to join its growing team. In this role, you will play a key leadership part in driving commercial loan growth, deepening business relationships, and supporting the strategic direction of the commercial banking division. The ideal candidate is a proven producer with strong credit skills and a meaningful presence in their local market.
VP Commercial Lending Officer Key Responsibilities
- Manage full-cycle commercial lending across C&I, CRE, owner-occupied real estate, and business banking relationships
- Develop, maintain, and grow a portfolio of high-quality commercial clients while serving as a trusted advisor to business owners
- Identify and attract new commercial relationships through networking, COIs, referrals, and community involvement
- Lead client conversations related to credit needs, deposit growth, treasury management solutions, and cross-sell opportunities
- Conduct financial analysis, risk assessments, and credit structuring for new and existing loan requests
- Prepare and present well-structured credit packages, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timely delivery
- Manage ongoing portfolio performance, including renewals, covenant monitoring, risk grading, and relationship profitability
- Collaborate closely with credit, underwriting, and loan operations teams to ensure efficient processing and sound credit quality
- Mentor junior lenders and support staff, contributing to a collaborative, relationship-driven culture
- Partner with senior leadership to execute market strategies and achieve team and individual production goals
- Represent the institution in the community at professional events, economic development groups, and partner organizations
VP Commercial Lending Officer Qualifications
- Proven track record of success in commercial lending within a bank or credit union environment
- Strong experience across C&I and CRE lending, including owner-occupied and investor real estate
- Solid credit acumen with the ability to structure, analyze, and present complex credit requests
- Demonstrated ability to build, deepen, and retain profitable commercial banking relationships
- Established presence in the local market with strong COI and referral networks
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
- Ability to manage multiple deals, relationships, and priorities in a fast-paced environment
