Vice President Commercial Lender Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Vice President – Commercial Lender to source, develop, and manage commercial banking relationships throughout the Greater Boston market. This senior-level role focuses heavily on C&I lending, relationship banking, credit acumen, and community engagement. The ideal candidate brings a strong local network, a proven production history, and the ability to grow a high-quality portfolio while maintaining strong credit and compliance standards.

Vice President – Commercial Lender Key Responsibilities
- Proactively develop new C&I and CRE relationships through networking, COI engagement, local business involvement, and market expertise
- Build and maintain a robust pipeline of lending opportunities aligned with the institution’s credit appetite
- Represent the organization at business events, professional associations, and community activities
- Identify opportunities to expand existing customer relationships and cultivate long-term partnerships
- Perform detailed financial analysis, cash-flow evaluation, and risk assessment for commercial loan requests
- Structure credit facilities including term loans, lines of credit, equipment financing, and owner-occupied real estate loans
- Collaborate with credit analysts to prepare accurate, timely underwriting packages
- Present recommendations to loan committees and work with leadership on deal strategy
- Manage an established portfolio of business clients with a focus on credit quality, covenant compliance, and relationship expansion
- Conduct annual reviews, monitor borrower performance, and identify emerging risks
- Deepen client relationships by cross-selling treasury management, deposit services, and other business banking solutions
- Respond promptly to customer needs while maintaining strong communication and service standards
- Partner with cash management, retail, credit, and operations teams to deliver a seamless end-to-end client experience
- Provide guidance or mentorship to junior lenders or support staff as needed
- Participate in commercial banking strategy discussions and contribute insights on local market conditions and competitive dynamics
Vice President – Commercial Lender Qualifications
- 7–12+ years of commercial lending experience with a strong emphasis on C&I lending
- Demonstrated ability to source, structure, and close new commercial relationships within Greater Boston
- Strong financial analysis and credit underwriting skills, including experience with cash-flow lending
- Proven track record of portfolio growth and relationship management
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of banking regulations, loan documentation, and commercial credit risk practices
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field preferred
- Established COI network within Greater Boston strongly preferred
