Business Banking Officer Overview


Our client is seeking a Business Banking Officer to develop and manage relationships with small to mid-sized businesses within the regional market. This role combines new business development, portfolio management, and community engagement to support the financial needs of local companies. The ideal candidate is relationship-driven, experienced in business lending, and committed to delivering exceptional service while maintaining strong credit quality.


Business Banking Officer Key Responsibilities


  • Proactively identify, source, and close new business banking relationships through community involvement, networking, and COI partnerships including attorneys, CPAs, and real estate professionals
  • Grow and manage a portfolio of business clients by understanding their operations and financial needs, recommending tailored lending, deposit, and treasury solutions
  • Represent the institution within the business community by attending events, chamber functions, and industry gatherings
  • Build long-term, trust-based relationships by providing ongoing consultation and high-quality customer service
  • Conduct financial analysis and credit assessments for new loan requests including lines of credit, owner-occupied real estate, equipment financing, and term loans
  • Prepare and submit complete, accurate loan packages for underwriting in alignment with internal credit policies
  • Manage an active portfolio through regular communication, annual reviews, covenant monitoring, and proactive risk identification
  • Maintain strong asset quality and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and internal standards
  • Collaborate with credit analysts, loan operations, treasury management, and retail teams to ensure smooth onboarding and servicing of business clients
  • Participate in sales meetings, pipeline reviews, and strategic discussions to support departmental growth
  • Support cross-selling initiatives by introducing clients to merchant services, online banking tools, treasury management solutions, and other business banking products


Business Banking Officer Qualifications


  • Three to seven years of experience in business banking, commercial lending, or a related financial services role
  • Strong understanding of business financial statements, cash flow analysis, and credit underwriting fundamentals
  • Proven track record of business development success and portfolio growth
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, loan documentation, and risk management best practices
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a close-knit team environment
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
