Commercial Lender Overview


Our client is seeking a Commercial Lender responsible for originating, underwriting, and managing high-quality commercial loan relationships within the broader market. This role focuses on building strong partnerships with local businesses, generating new loan and deposit opportunities, and maintaining a high-performing loan portfolio. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the financial needs of the community while upholding strong credit standards.

This position requires the ability to consistently generate and book at least three million dollars in new commercial loans annually.


Commercial Lender Key Responsibilities


  • Proactively source new commercial lending opportunities through community involvement, networking, and referrals from COIs including attorneys, CPAs, and real estate professionals
  • Build strong, long-term relationships with business owners across a variety of industries
  • Understand client operations, growth objectives, and cash flow needs in order to recommend tailored lending, deposit, and treasury solutions
  • Represent the institution at business events, community gatherings, and professional functions
  • Perform initial credit analysis, financial statement review, and risk assessments for commercial loan requests
  • Prepare and package loan requests for underwriting while ensuring alignment with internal credit policies
  • Manage an active portfolio through ongoing monitoring, annual reviews, covenant tracking, and consistent customer communication
  • Maintain strong asset quality through early risk identification and proactive mitigation strategies
  • Collaborate with credit analysts, loan operations, and treasury/cash management teams to ensure efficient loan processing and onboarding
  • Participate in sales meetings, pipeline reviews, and strategic growth discussions
  • Support cross-selling initiatives by connecting business clients with merchant services, treasury management, and digital banking tools


Commercial Lender Qualifications


  • Three to seven years of commercial lending or business banking experience
  • Strong credit analysis skills with the ability to structure commercial real estate, equipment financing, working capital, and/or SBA loans
  • Demonstrated success in originating new commercial relationships and booking at least three million dollars in new loan volume annually
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements, commercial loan documentation, and risk management practices
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
