Commercial Lender Overview


Our client is seeking a Commercial Lender responsible for originating, structuring, and managing commercial loan relationships within the broader market area. This role focuses on supporting local businesses with customized financing solutions while maintaining strong credit quality and delivering exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate is relationship-oriented, community-focused, and skilled in both credit analysis and business development.


Commercial Lender Key Responsibilities


  • Proactively source new commercial lending opportunities through networking, referrals, community involvement, and business outreach
  • Build and maintain long-term relationships with business owners across a wide range of industries including manufacturing, retail, service, and real estate
  • Develop a strong understanding of each client’s business model, financial needs, and growth plans
  • Promote the institution’s full suite of business banking services including deposits, cash management, and digital banking solutions
  • Conduct financial analysis, cash-flow evaluation, and risk assessment for commercial loan requests
  • Structure loan solutions including operating lines, equipment financing, commercial real estate, and SBA lending options
  • Prepare and present detailed credit write-ups to internal credit teams and loan committees
  • Ensure compliance with internal credit policies, procedures, and all regulatory requirements
  • Manage an active portfolio of commercial relationships ensuring loan performance, covenant compliance, and timely annual reviews
  • Maintain strong asset quality through proactive monitoring and early identification of potential issues
  • Expand existing relationships by identifying additional banking needs and cross-selling appropriate products and services
  • Provide high-touch customer service and maintain frequent communication with borrowers
  • Collaborate closely with credit analysts, loan operations, treasury management, and retail teams to ensure a seamless client experience
  • Participate in sales meetings and strategic planning sessions supporting broader commercial banking goals
  • Provide insight into market conditions, economic trends, and competitive activity


Commercial Lender Qualifications


  • 3–7+ years of commercial lending or business banking experience
  • Strong financial analysis, credit evaluation, and loan structuring skills
  • Demonstrated success in business development and portfolio growth
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building abilities
  • Knowledge of regulatory guidelines, risk management practices, and commercial loan documentation
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered
  • Familiarity with regional business markets strongly preferred
