Agricultural Lender Overview


Our client, a respected community-focused financial institution, is seeking a skilled Agricultural Lender to help grow and manage a high-quality agricultural loan portfolio. This role focuses on building strong relationships with farm owners, ag businesses, crop and livestock operations, and rural enterprises while delivering customized financing solutions. A strong understanding of agriculture, farm financials, and rural community banking is essential.


Agricultural Lender Key Responsibilities


  • Develop new ag lending relationships through on-site farm visits, referrals, and community involvement
  • Identify and attract quality lending opportunities across crop, livestock, and diversified ag operations
  • Analyze farm financial statements, cash flow cycles, balance sheets, and production trends
  • Structure and underwrite ag loans including operating lines, equipment financing, livestock loans, ag real estate, and FSA-guaranteed loans
  • Monitor portfolio performance through annual reviews, collateral inspections, covenant tracking, and risk assessments
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to producers on financial management, succession planning, growth opportunities, and capital strategies
  • Promote the institution’s full suite of agricultural, commercial, and business banking services


Agricultural Lender Qualifications


  • 2–7+ years of ag lending or related farm financial experience
  • Strong understanding of crop and livestock operations, farm management, ag economics, and seasonal cash flow cycles
  • Demonstrated ability to build trust-based relationships with producers, ag COIs, and rural community partners
  • Solid credit and risk analysis skills with experience structuring agricultural credit requests
  • Bachelor’s degree in Ag Business, Finance, or related field preferred; relevant experience considered
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, and relationship-building skills
  • Self-motivated, community-oriented, and able to manage multiple relationships and priorities
