Business Development Officer Overview
Our client is seeking a motivated, high-energy Business Development Officer to source and originate residential and commercial real estate lending opportunities across Greater Boston and select national markets. This role focuses on building strong referral relationships, identifying investors and developers needing fast, flexible financing, and guiding deals from first conversation through funding. This position is ideal for a self-driven producer with an established network in real estate investing, mortgage lending, construction, or private lending.
Business Development Officer Key Responsibilities
- Proactively originate fix-and-flip, bridge, construction, investor 1–4 unit, and small-balance commercial loans
- Develop and grow a strong referral network including real estate agents, attorneys, mortgage brokers, wholesalers, developers, and investors
- Conduct outreach through networking events, investor groups, social media, cold outreach, and existing relationships to generate consistent deal flow
- Maintain a steady pipeline of qualified opportunities with structured follow-up
- Meet with investors and developers to understand financing needs, project details, timelines, and exit strategies
- Provide guidance on loan programs, terms, documentation requirements, and funding expectations
- Assist borrowers through the application and pre-approval process, ensuring accuracy and speed
- Analyze project data including purchase price, rehab budgets, ARV, contractor experience, and borrower background
- Structure deals within lending parameters and risk thresholds
- Collaborate with underwriting, processing, and leadership to submit complete, accurate loan files
- Serve as the primary point of communication for borrowers from intake through closing
- Stay informed on local real estate trends, investor activity, neighborhood dynamics, and competitive offerings
- Represent the company at investor meetups, industry conferences, REIA events, and networking functions
- Promote the brand through proactive engagement across real estate and private lending communities
Business Development Officer Qualifications
- Proven success sourcing or originating real estate, private lending, or mortgage-related deals
- Strong network across real estate investing, development, brokerage, or lending communities
- Understanding of investor-focused loan products including bridge, fix-and-flip, construction, and small-balance commercial
- Ability to analyze project budgets, ARV, borrower financials, and overall deal viability
- Excellent relationship-building, communication, and negotiation skills
- Self-motivated, competitive, and able to manage a high-volume pipeline
- Strong organizational skills and ability to work cross-functionally with internal teams
- Experience in the Greater Boston real estate market is highly preferred
